THE HEADQUARTERS AREA

Eight hikes included in Chapter I start close to the headquarters area of the Park. Six do not require driving on dirt roads.

After rain storms the clay and mud of Capitol Reef can (often should) force a delay or cancellation of a hike. For serious canyoneers the Mummy Canyon Loop hike would be the best of these after (not during) a rain.
